aijuswanadraw

so after spending the last couple of days fawning over sketches by noel sickles and martin redmond i'd come to question my own lazy drawing habits. like alan tew i grew up with "how to draw comics the marvel way" burnt into my drawing habits. so this sketch was motivated by the meditation of seeing through the jumble and sketching with simplicity. i tried to use as few lines as i could to indicate forms, and focused more on values and shapes. the sneakers and slippers were warm-ups to the bigger sketch. overall i was impressed by my ability to place things well by eyeballing it.

when i was done i took pics of the things i sketched in as close as i could get to my original vantage point.

the following day i tried to do an ink sketch of the same table. eventually i got really lazy--but this gave me a little more hope at being able to duplicate something like nabiel kanan's exit. the way the bag in the middle under the table got vertically stretched just goes to show how i tend to draw bigger to create more detail. it kind or reminds me of this guy's stuff

well, now that my art-suckage is exposed like dog nuts i'll go cower in the corner and sketch some more.

my first digital painting with the comic booky inks

so here's where i stop today. i actually just used a previous flat color layer and added some additional pigments for skin tone, highlight, etc. and then i got really lazy and tried to fake the shirt wrinkles in color, all on the same layer. the token swirly gradient is a tribute to him being a Packer fan. meh. i have to pee.

something to look at 3

so this is backwards progress on a portrait i'm doing of a buddy of mine. i work so slowly because i've never tried to paint digitally before. i'm going to attempt to lay in color after i've set the tonal values, as i've seen ryan wood do on one of his videos. just had a spark today.

Once upon a time I wanted to be an animator

and this is my pathetic attempt at animating a simple character. it took me roughly 45 minutes to do and is only 8 frames. i have an increased respect for animators especially tween artists. and i think i've come a long way from drawing worms playing volleyball in the margins of phonebooks. lol. this is all hand drawn in GIMP using layers for frames. enjoy.

something else to look at

This is another WIP portrait.

something to look at

I started up a new project to keep myself drawing. This is a WIP portrait of a buddy of mine. It's also my way of experimenting with "inking" in GIMP. Yeah I know the color's sloppy and those hands are terrible.

Something Corny

So my first Blog is about absolute nothing. I'm here expounding the results of no planning, no thinking, and no intention. Sounds Buddhist. Maybe not.
